Rawlins to Riverside, Wy
62 miles (about 57 productive miles, since close to 5 of that was spent getting from my campsite back onto the route and/or shopping in Rawlins.)
I left Rawlins around 9 after picking up a spare inner tube at Wal-Mart and headed toward Sinclair, which was apparently named after the Sinclair oil/gas company. There was a large refinery there. Despite the refinery it was an attractive, small town.
At Sinclair the route headed onto the freeway (I-80) for 13 miles. Its not as crazy or scary as it sounds. There was a 12 ft wide shoulder and the road was arrow straight. It was also legal on this section.
After that it was back onto secondary roads towards the town of Saratoga about 20 miles away. I didn't take any pictures of Saratoga but it was a neat little town of around 1700 people. After lunch at Saratoga I had another 20 mile stretch to Riverside, where I am camping for the night.
Most of the day was a whole lot more high desert and long straight roads. I took the pictures below about 10 miles outside of Riverside.
There was a fire off in the distance. The clerk at the convenience store in Riverside said it should not affect me based on the roads I am taking.
View down the road towards Riverside.
Downtown Riverside
The campground here (Lazy Acres) is excellent, better than any I have stayed at so far. $10 got me a nice site with water and electricity, a shower and access to a laundry room and reading room/library.
My site for the night.
Sunset as I am typing this.

Nice campsite!
ReplyDeleteI like that campground! Glad the fire didn't effect you. Stay safe
