This was my first really cold morning. I woke up with frost sll over my tent. Having access to the hotel/ hostel made it a lot more tolerable since I was able to just run inside and warm up and get some coffee. As I mentioned in my last post this was a really cool place. A few pictures appear below.
I left Jackson just after 8 for the climb over Big Hole Pass then Badger Pass before stopping for lunch and some shopping in Dillon. Some pictures from the ride tp Dillon appear below.
In between Dillon and Twin Bridges, my stopping point for the day I ran across Beaverhead Rock. If you can see the beaver's head you are more imaginative than me. Here are some pictures of the rock and some information boards for my sons, Kaden and Dante, to read.
About 8 miles before reaching Twin Bridges I ran into some nut skateboarding the other way in the middle of the road trying to make the 20 mile stretch to Dillon. He was looking seriously overheated and asked for some water. I let him drink a whole water bottle since I had 2 full and only 8 miles left.
I spent the night at a very cool little cyclists camp in the city park in Twin Bridges. There I met the first couple I have seen bicycle touring. I didn't catch their names but they were in their 50s and had been on the road for about a month, having started in Olympia, Wa and having ridden from there to the start of the TransAmerica Trail.
Curious moos who all headed toward me when I stopped on the side of the road.
Looking toward downtown Twin Bridges
Sign pointing toward cyclists camp
Shower, bike repair stand, cooking area with sink and indoor room to escape the mosquitos and recharge devices.
Note left in guest book by previous visitor.
The total for the day was 76 miles.
I almost forgot to mention that coming down the backside of Big Hole Pass I hit my highest speed yet, 39.9 mph. It wasn't all that steep but conditions were perfect, with a very smooth road, no traffic and no wind. I didn't even realize I was going that fast until I glanced at my computer.

Wow! That's a lot of miles!! Stay safe
ReplyDeleteLove the mooz!!!
